It's hard to believe that the wedding is 36 days in the rearview mirror. Despite the worries about the weather, the condition of the venue, decorating the room in a short amount of time, crippled grandparents walking down a small flight of steps, guests not remembering what entrée they ordered, etc., etc., everything turned out beautifully.
The reception was so fun. From the minute the dancing began it didn't stop until the DJ shut it down at the end of the evening. A lot of joy, happiness and bottled beer!
Carlene was an exceptionally lovely bride and Dan was an amazingly handsome groom. They looked perfect together. Of course, I am not biased.
The rehearsal dinner turned out well and it was fun. My decorations for the dinner and the wedding were great.
I did not shed any tears during the ceremony, nor did Carlene's mom (that I could see). It was evident our children were ready to commit to each other. Dan was not nervous at all. He raised his fist in victory after the vows were complete and he dipped his bride daringly low to seal the deal with a romantic kiss.
Both of us moms got a little misty toward the end of the reception when Dan and Carlene, without fanfare, left to start their new life together. After a round of parental hugs and good wishes, they held hands as they slipped away into the night. Husband and wife, to have and to hold. Our son is a husband. Their daughter is a wife.
So hard to believe he is all grown up; it went so fast. No, I'm not tearing up. I'm just recalling how much my feet hurt in my fancy mother-of-the-groom shoes.....

90 Day Fiancées
The countdown to Dan and Carlene's wedding is 90 days. You know what that means--90 days for me to lose those same 10 pounds.... That's only if I haven't gained any since I started my "10 pounds in 118 days diet" that has turned into a big belly flop.
On the other hand, Mr. W has lost about 20 pounds in the last six or seven weeks. He still has quite a lot to go, but I can finally tell that his baggage in the middle has lessened. Of course, this progress is not being made without purchasing pricey magic pills and potions from the supplement superstore, including a powdered green substance that looks like the slime we power-wash off our siding. Yuck!
In addition to popping pills and swallowing swill, he basically consumes what you would think a man would eat to lose weight. For breakfast, instead of the trough of cereal and milk he previously ate, he prepares two scrambled eggs to which he adds an additional cup of egg whites for more volume and protein. For lunch, he has a meat sandwich on two pieces of whole wheat bread, no cheese, plus raw carrots and an apple. Dinner is a meat protein, two pieces of bread, and a large serving of vegetables. Then, later in the evening, a cup or two of Cheerios for a snack. He has been walking a trail at a nearby park and on a track at his office. Lather, rinse, and repeat and what do you know? He can lose weight after all!
He says he feels a lot better. In particular, he's not so tired. Well, doesn't that make some sense? Walk around all day hauling a 20-lb. sack of flour and see how much more worn out you'll feel.
"Just think if you would have lightened up the load on your poor knees years ago!" I chirped.
On the first day of the month, we helped Dan move into the house that he and Carlene are renting and will occupy together after they are married. It's a fine little place that could use a fresh coat of paint and kitchen cabinets from this century, but they think it's heaven. The front porch is made of crumbly concrete that Carlene has solicited a promise from the landlord to replace. The previous tenants left a lawn mower that Mr. W tuned up so that Dan can use it to cut the grass and doesn't have to buy one.
My son is taking care of a lawn and he'll have a wife in just 90 short days. And she'll come not with a 90-day guarantee, but a lifetime guarantee. Isn't that something?
